Tribal Fusion is a modern contemporary further develpoment of the traditional belly dance. Elements from diverse modern but also from folkoristic dance styles are included with influences from flamenco, afro, hip hop, house, voguing, popping, modern, jazz and traditional belly dance. This unique mix leads to a soft, feminin and original dance form. Every dancer lets her own movement spectrum influence the whole happening what makes the lesson and the way of the movements very individual.
The great thing of Tribal Fusion is that you move as if you were goddesses floating softly through the room without showing the great effort that is costs to control every single body parts separately from each other. The challenge for every dancer is holding a very strong body tension that is needed until your toes and finger tips but that is also a must to move in this way with different elements such as from hip hop, modern, etc.
A great difference to the traditional belly dance is the quality of the movements. Softly flowing motions that alternate with isolated movements are constantly influenced by the music that you dance to. Furthermore the single movements are more directed downwards what helps us to get grounded in and with the body and to strengthen our base chakra. That means, also if you are not interested in a great performance, tribal fusion as well as other dance styles can have a very positive influence to your body feeling and well-being.
Worldwide representatives are Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes and Sharon Kihara. The Portugese Orchidaceae Family is better known for its Urban Tribal Fusion style.
Lias way of teaching is very sensitive and intuitive. Her passion for movement and body language makes her classes very sensual and unique. Her career as a dancer from Berlin gives her a wide spectrum of knowledge from contemporary over urban styles up to traditional dance forms. She combines her knowledge to a constant flowing energetic class with „earthy, wavy, snaky, sexy skills and drills“.
Warm-Up, Drilling/ Layers, Improvisation, Choreography
The class begins with a detailed warmup in that Lia already includes dancing moves that will be repeated in the end for the choreography again. Hereby the whole body will be activated. Afterwards you will work on a choreography to one special music piece.
A very special part of Lias class is dancing in a circle. It is not only lots of fun and gives a looser atmosphere but it also demonstrate respect towards traditional folkore dances. In many cultures of the world women danced together in a circle. Either to strengthen the common feeling or just to have fun together, to relax or as spiritual practice. Dance was always more than just a show.
In this class you learn the basic techniques of belly dance with the quality of tribal fusion.
Moreover you will learn to isolate different parts of your body and to move them separately from each other. Another focus lies in making the body and the spine more flexible and to strengthen them via muscle training. So we will be able to work on and to feel different movements without getting any injuries.
