Quincy Junor Presents Jazz on Heels

Quincy Junor is bringing his American Jazz class on Heels. However, for those who wish to join even if you have not danced in heels can still join the fun. The class will still focus on the Broadway musical/lyrical aspects of jazz, which pulls from the inspirations from studying with Mary Brienza, Troy Powell, Sharon Wong, Fred Benjamin, Christian von Howard, and the late Luigi. We will focus on the angles, lines, the use of the pelvis and hips from our warmup in center and across the floor. We will work on how to prepare for auditions and performances which requires dancing in heels by understanding how to use our center(core) and support of the legs when moving in the first half of class.

“The energy doesn’t end at the hands. I want such intensity that it feels like light is streaming from every finger.”

– Bob Fosse

If you have ever taken a class of Quincy’s you know everything is geared to the choreography that will be worked on in class. In the second half, as we get into the choreographic phrase we will focus on the use of the breath to allow the liberty of movement through ones body to complete your lines when moving from slow to fast so you are grounded and yet pulled. So you the dancer can make the smallest movement/gesture take on the biggest meaning. And, most importantly, how to find or define your character choices in the choreography through coaching you the dancers.

“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful… This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking”

– Agnes De Mille
