Quincy Junor teaches a pure Graham Technique class which follows the same format as the Graham School, Ailey School, and LaGuardia H.S. Of Music, Arts, & Performing Arts where he studied the Graham Technique extensively.
He was the Graham faculty at Balance 1 TanzAkademie for the past 5 years where three of his students went on to study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and where one was invited and is currently enrolled in their Professional Certificate Program. He has guest taught the Graham technique at DanceWorks Berlin and Motion*s Berlin for their respective programs.
In the class Quincy Junor will focus on the classic floor work of the Graham Technique which is the backbone of the Graham aesthetic. Understanding the use of pelvis (the heart of where the movement begins and ends) and how it allows us to move from sitting to standing, and across the floor going through the movement but not stopping in a position/shape since the movement is continuous as Martha has said herself. Week two, will see us take the classic floor work and variate it by adding on other elements of the Graham vocabulary then applying it to a Graham inspired choreography of mine.
The course will be taught at an Intermediate-Advance Level, and those having knowledge of the Graham technique is a plus but not necessary, since as a group we will go through the ABC’s of the technique together.
Please register for this class in our class calendar. Here you can book specific dates and you can also pay online. If you are a contract member of motion*s the booking is free of charge for you.
