Kimiko Versatile (DanceJa)
Kimiko Miller, aka Kimiki Versatile, originally from Discovery Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica began dancing professionally in 1998 at Naggo Head Primary School. By the time she got to high school she was training in Modern Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and Folk for five days a week for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Dance competition.
Dance Education and Training
While doing this, she had the privilege of attending the Ashe Performing Arts Company where she was being trained by some of the greatest choreographer in Jamaica like Michael Holgate and Joe Robinson (founder of Ashe) in dance, drama, music and edutainment.
She further went on to study dance at the Edna Manley of the Visual and Performing Arts in 2005, where she was vigorously trained in intermediate Ballet, West African, Traditional Folk, Jazz, Modern Contemporary, Improvisation, Cuban Modern, dance composition, Musical theatre and Dance therapy just to name a few. She had the privilege of being adjudicated by the most recognised batch of Jamaican Dance Choreographers and Teachers like Prof. Rex Nettleford, Dr. L’antoinette Stines, Ms. Nicholeen De-grasse Johnson, Clive Thompson and Ms. Barbara Requa. Kimiko received her diploma in 2008, which was awarded by the Edna Manley College in Dance theatre and production. She was awarded the Bert Rose award for the most outstanding student in Dance Theatre and Production and the Sheila Barnett award for the most outstanding performer. In dance competitions, she earned trophies for the best pop and folk dancer and medals were awarded for various dance performances in all disciplines, in which she was often featured as part of a small group. She was also nominated for the Danceja Choreographer of the year 2012.
She has a received a scholarship (2007) to complete her studies at the Edna Manley College from the Dancing Dynamite competition where she was placed second. She has recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography (second class honour degree) Kimiko is currently a member of the DanceJa Movement and former member of the L’acadco Dance theatre company.
She has worked with major Local and International Recording Artistes such as Sean Paul, Diana King, Sean Kingston, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, D’angel, Beres Hammond, RDX, Richie Stephens, Ishawna, Cherine Anderson, Taurus Riley, Voicemail, Kk Alese, Rre, Razor B, Raging Fyah, and Q-ban to name a few.
She has Choreographed for music videos such as, D’angel – Blaze, Cecile -Bad gal Medley, Diana king- yu dun know, and ‘Jeans and T-shirt’, Nordia ft Charley B – Gypsy Tango, Rre-Bad it up, OCG- Goodie, Abby Dallas- Gold Digga. She also has great amount of choreographic work experiences with Harmony Dance Company, which performs for hotels like Riu Hotels, Bahia Principe, Holiday Inn, Secrets, Grande Palladium, Iberostar, Sandals Mobay and Sunset beach hotel in Jamaica. She is also one of the chorographer for the newly priemiered Jamaican movie ‘KING OF THE DANCEHALL’ which features well main actors like Nick Cannon, Busta Rhymes and Kreesha Turner. Kimiko has created dancehall moves such as Chuh, Kuukuu, Dig-it, Crunch, Passage Wine, Scizzors, Watch di Pumz, Purpletouch, Jafrican Whine, Knock it up, Tie Him, Tighten it, Tight Right, Moola, Badnuhbloodclaat and more to come. She possesses a natural love for the stage that’s very evident in her performances and has a distinct style, which is renown throughout her presence. She is definitely not afraid to explode on stage and explore her creative, yet flexible moves, strength, stamina, versatility and well-sequenced styles.
In May-June 2014 Kimiko aka Kim Versatile (First Class Dancer) travelled to Russia and Europe for her first True Jamaican Dancehall Solo Tour courtesy of DanceJa and Top Up Productions. Her Dance Workshops showcased Dance Genres such as Traditional Folk, AfroJam, Reggae Jam’n, Authentic Dancehall, Brukout Dancehall, Stylish Moves, Soca Jam and Bumpa Twerkout.
Kimiko Versatile (DanceJa Queens)In Russia she visited cities such as Chelyabinsk, Yaroslavl, Rybinsk, Tumen, Moscow, St. Petersburg, 2016: Kazan, Samara, Siberia and in Europe: Sweden, Poland, Austria, Italy (Milan & Rome), Germany, Spain and Finland. Kimiko has travelled to Europe Twice after that in 2015 and 2016 to conduct more dance workshops.
Her unique dance style and her “Rasta Empress” manifestation won her many fans in Jamaica and Worldwide. Over the past years she has gained vast experience in teaching all age groups at Edna Manley College, Dance Jamaica Academy, several Fitness Centres in Jamaica and now several Dance Schools around the world including Japan, Taiwan, Australia, the U.K and the U.S. She is working hard to obtain her own dance studio where she can form her own Dance Company and continue creating and building on her own unique dance styles. Her favourite quote is ‘Dance is my life, and I live it’.
