Brazilian Afro Capoeira Contemporary Dance Modern Dance Modern Zouk

Jan Lachenmayer is an internationally performing dance artist and instructor. From an early age on dance was an essential part of his life. Trained in Capoeira, Brazilian Afro, Modern and Contemporary Dance, Eastern body-mind practices, and of course Brazilian Zouk.


With Paulo Lopes he was trained in Capoeira and Brazilian solo dances, such as Axé, Samba-Reggae and Samba no pé. Murah Soares shaped his understanding pf Brazilian Afro. Xavier Reese was his main influence in Modern Dance. He found his passion for Zouk in 2008, with Artdance Company, where he taught and learnt beside Zouk other Brazilian ballroom dances such as Samba de Gafiera and Forró. Soon he started to merge his Zouk teaching with influences from Contemporary and Modern Dance, body work, systemic therapy and Eastern body-mind practices.

Jan is co-founder and was managing director of ProZouk UG, the organization that was responsible for carrying out the International Zouk Congress Berlin 2010, 2011 and 2012. He was co-organiser of the Sensual Summer Festival in Berlin 2014. Futhermore, he is co-founder and was a member of the management board of Danca Alegria e.V. – Centre for Brazilian and Latin-American dances, Berlin.
